What is the role of a Meet Pi Activity Leader?
This festival is an event where young people can explore, discover and play with mathematics. Each activity table will have a 1-2 facilitators (Activity Leader) and a problem set, game, puzzle, or activity. Activity Leaders guide participants to approach, explore or solve problems and strive to ask questions rather than provide answers.
Who can be an Activity Leader?
Anyone with a passion and interest in maths, so you be a maths teacher, tertiary student or senior high school student (Year 11 or Year 12) with a passion and aptitude for maths and seeking a community volunteer and leadership opportunity. All activity leaders aged 18+ must have VIT registration OR hold a current Working With Children Check.
How will you benefit from being an Activity Leader?
Meet other like-minded people. Inspire a love of learning maths in young people within our community. Experience the joy of helping our youth build their creativity and confidence in problem-solving.
What sort of time commitment is expected?
You will be assigned 1-2 table activities to review in the weeks prior to the event. With a briefing and training session held on the event day prior to the festival start, setting up and packing down your activity on the day and attending the event, you’ll need to volunteer approximately 6 hours.
Will I get paid to be an Activity Leader?
The Activity Leader roles are volunteer based, so we’d love to hear from people who are passionate about maths, guiding young people to achieve and getting together to meet and work with other like-minded people to support the community. We do provide volunteer insurance and a catered lunch on the day for all our volunteers.
